However, she is still concerned with how people see her now that she has had plastic surgeryвЂ¦ Normally in series, when a girl is insecure the male lead swoops in and protects. She was вЂњuglyвЂќ as a child and got plastic surgery to make herself pretty. Kang Mi-rae, our amazing female protagonist, is very insecure about how she looks. To say the least, they are Meg from DisneyвЂ™s Hercules. Not that these women do not receive all the above treatment but their attitude towards receiving it is vastly different to allowing another man to protect them from men. And then comes the romantic hero, who вЂњseesвЂќ passed all the nonconformity and rescues the damsel in distress from all of this. Women are told to look and act a certain way, and if they do not conform to this standard then they are treated terribly, made fun of, and nobody stands up for them.

Often in series (whether American, British, Korean, whatever), women are looked down upon, degraded and shamed вЂ“ physically and mentally. So I thought I would just share a few of my thoughts on it.

Just search for this series on Tumblr, and you will see nothing but praise for many, many, many moments (and characters) in this series. Honestly, I need more characters like the ones in thisвЂ¦ or at least more of the accurate representation of how men talk about women and even how societal expectations effect the way women treat women. This description hides the ultimate girl power and possibly the most feminist characters that I have ever come across in my KDrama viewing. but let me tell you, that is not what this series does at all.

It is easily brushed off as a classic RomComвЂ¦ Boy saves GirlвЂ¦ that sort of thingвЂ¦. But when the bullying doesnвЂ™t stop, she meets someone who shows her the true meaning of beautyвЂќ (by dramafever). When you comes across the basic description of the series, it tends to read: вЂњA university student bullied for her looks gets plastic surgery. and really it exceeded all expectations I didnвЂ™t know I had. I was looking for something to watch while I waited for the new episodes of whatever the current dramas I am watching to be released, and I came across it again and thought вЂњwell why not, itвЂ™s supposed to be goodвЂќвЂ¦. I started this series because I remembered seeing rave reviews about itвЂ¦ I never actually read the reviews but the headlines were all positive.
